Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is a malignant neoplasm arising most commonly from the terminal duct-lobular units of the breast, representing the most common cancer in women worldwide with significant morbidity and mortality if not detected early. Its clinical significance lies in the diverse molecular subtypes—luminal A, luminal B, HER2-enriched, and triple-negative—which dictate prognosis and guide targeted therapeutic strategies including hormonal therapy, HER2-directed agents, and immunotherapy. Medical students must understand the triple assessment approach combining clinical examination, imaging, and pathological confirmation, as well as the TNM staging system, because early recognition and appropriate classification directly impact treatment decisions and patient survival outcomes.
